Absent…I don’t recall

I don’t remember what I dreamt

Nor what ensued after I slept

Because I wasn’t awake

Nor was I aware

It’s only when I’m alert

That I don’t forget

At times I don’t recall scenes

That my eyes had seen

Because although vigilant

My mind wasn’t sentient

It’s when awake is present

And aware is not absent

And they both unite

Into a single entity

That is the only interval

Where the two revel

And that is the only moment

That is still present
